Nikon D90 Settings

OK so you’ve got your new toy, the excellent Nikon D90 digital SLR. What do you do next? How do you set it up? If you’re new to Nikon DSLR’s you may find these guides helpful (I hope so or I’m wasting my time). I’ve just got myself one of these myself so I’m going to tell you how I set up my own camera. I’m not going to explain where all the controls are located so you need to familiarise yourself with these first or keep the manual handy. As a point of note, there is a handy info button (middle one of the five on the left with a question mark and key on it) which when pressed (and held) when a selection is highlighted, will give a brief description of the choice(s) available.

Setup Menu – Date and Time

If you have just got yourself a brand new Nikon D90 the first thing you need to do, after you’ve unpacked it of course, is set the date and time. If you have purchased a used model this should already be done, but it’s probably a good idea to check anyway. Press the MENU button to bring the MONITOR... 

Setup Menu – Auto Image Rotation

The Nikon D90 has an auto image rotation feature, which you may find handy when viewing portrait photographs on your computer. On your Nikon D90, press the MENU button to bring the MONITOR to life.
