If you have just got yourself a brand new Nikon D90 the first thing you need to do, after you’ve unpacked it of course, is set the date and time. If you have purchased a used model this should already be done, but it’s probably a good idea to check anyway.
Press the MENU button to bring the MONITOR to life. Make sure that one of the TABS on the left is highlighted, using the MULTI SELECTOR (abbreviated to M/S in future) to highlight the SETUP MENU (the spanner). Click right on the M/S to enter the menu proper. Click down to WORLD TIME and when highlighted, click right. This lands you on Time Zone and you click right to select and bring up a map of the world. Using the M/S left/right arrows choose the area where you live, which at a guess is going to be London, Casablanca, and push the OK button.
This will take you back to the previous menu where you can now use the down arrow on the M/S to go to Date and Time. Using the right arrow will bring you onto Year. On this screen you use the Up/Down arrows on the M/S to change the value of the item and the Left/Right arrows to move from one ‘field’ (Year, Month, Day, Hour, Minute, Second) to the next.
When you have finished, press OK on the M/S.
You can then go to DATE FORMAT where you can choose in which order the camera will show the Day, Month and Year.
Press OK when you have selected the format of your choice.
Finally you can choose whether you want the camera to automatically adjust the time when Daylight saving time kicks in. If you choose Yes check the time again as it may have been adjusted.
Pressing the left arrow on the M/S will take you back to the SETUP menu.
And that's it! Simple isn't it
HI,
I’m from Brazil and bought last month in USA one Nikon D90, I’m very happy with this camera, but I’d like to know if it’s possible put date in the picture automactily or I have to use the computer program to do this and how can I do to put the date.
Thanks for your attention and waitting from you soon.
Breno
Hi Breno. Unfortunately it is not possible to add the date onto a photo with the Nikon D90 – it would have to be added on your computer through a graphics program. As far as I am aware, it is only point and shoot type cameras that actually have this feature.
Hi
In actual fact, the D90 stores the date and time (down to the second) in the EXIF data in every image. This can be accessed using EXIF viewers or sometimes the folder viewer on your PC or image library software.
Of course if you actually want the time and date burned into the photo, then you need to do that manually (as far as I know).
Hope that helps.
