The D90 has a great facility in its features called My Menu, not unique to this model but nevertheless very handy.
As you might guess from the title, My Menu is a customisable list of settings of your own making. If you find it difficult or slow to find settings in the general menus or want to put the settings you change the most in one place, this is for you.
My Menu can contain up to 20 items which may be added from any of the other menus. It is shared on the bottom tab selection in the Menu system with ‘Recent Settings’ and is a toggle choice between the two by highlighting and selecting ‘Choose Tab’.
The process is quite simple and painless.
- Go to My Menu
- Highlight and choose ‘Add Items’
- Select the menu you want to add an item from
- Scroll down to item and click ‘OK’
You can change the position of the item by using the up or down arrows on the multi selector. (If you need to do this later you will have to choose ‘Rank items’ – highlight item and then use up/down arrows)
TIP: You can set the Fn (function) button to access the top item in My Menu. This is extremely handy if there is a feature of the D90 which you regularly need to access quickly. I personally have mine set to ‘Set Picture Control’ as I often change between the Normal setting and Vivid.

I bought my D90 and i just wonder if there is black and white function?
Hi. Yes there is a black and white function. Go to the Shooting Menu (camera icon), then select Set Picture Control. Then select Monochrome.
However, you may wish to reconsider using this feature and instead take the photo in colour as normal and then convert the file to greyscale using your favourite graphics program. This gives the photo a better range of greys and also if you change your mind you still have it in colour and can compare the two.
