Playback Menu

Once I have finished under my Nikon D90 Setup Menu, I go on to setup the Playback Menu.

Press the MENU button to bring the MONITOR to life. Make sure that one of the TABS on the left is highlighted, using the MULTI SELECTOR to highlight the PLAYBACK menu (Black triangle in a white square icon).

Note that some of the items here will be ‘greyed out’ until you have an SD card in the camera and you have actually taken some pictures.

I don’t change much from the default positions in this menu myself.
I like to see the image as soon as I have taken it so I make sure that IMAGE REVIEW is set to ON.

In DISPLAY MODE you can select to show information alongside your photos whilst viewing on the camera. I choose to show the DATA and RGB HISTOGRAM (highlight the item and right click to set. Make sure you highlight DONE and click OK when you have finished or the changes will be ignored. I don’t select HIGHLIGHTS as I don’t like to see the flashing areas in playback.

I leave ROTATE TALL set to OFF. You might get confused with AUTO IMAGE ROTATION above but this switch actually turns the picture to portrait orientation on the MONITOR if you turned the camera through 90 degrees to take the picture. This results in a far smaller picture on the MONITOR (probably about half the size) so is much harder to check your results.

That’s all I change in the PLAYBACK menu. Check out the other items yourself, they are mainly features to be used during playback or for printing.
