Using a Flash Gun Remotely

Nikon SB400Pamela wrote to me with a problem she was having getting her Nikon Speedlight SB-400 Flashgun to work remotely with her Nikon D90. She had already tried a sync lead that turned out to be incompatible, and a remote trigger FOTGA PT-04TM, which didn't fire the flash either, and she was beginning to wonder if it was actually possible to use the the Nikon SB-400 remotely with the Nikon D90.

Not to worry! What you need is the Nikon SC28 Remote Cord.

Now, according to the Nikon D90 Manual, in order for any flash accessories to work you must also have the Nikon AS 15 Hot Shoe Adaptor mounted on the camera accessory shoe. However, looking at the images, it seems to me that the Nikon SC28 does not need an adaptor!

Let me know if you have used one of these.

Jilly, the SC28 remote cord works perfectly with my D90 – many thanks

I’m having a similar problem with my Nikon D90 and jessops 360afd flash gun. the flashgun seems to work with the camera the only problem is with the flash mounted the camera won’t let me shoot?

Hi Natalie. TBH I find flash can be very confusing and very rarely use it myself. I have a little SB400 for the very rare occasion I might need one.

I think that you will have to refer to the manual for guidance on the Jessops flash, but I’m wondering if you may not be able to use TTL mode. If you have a Jessops store near you it would be worth a trip there, but I understand the standard of their staff’s knowledge varies considerably from store to store. :(
